Keith Dye

Captain 2018

Gentlemen, firstly, best wishes to you all for the new year.May I start by thanking all of you who gave support to the club whether that be in club matches, home and away, or giving of your time and efforts during the year.

To the committee, bar staff, and members, a huge debt of gratitude to yourselves with your personal support for my year, it is without doubt very humbling

The pride in being captain for such a great club, is difficult to express in a few words, but is memorable in every way.>

My personal thanks go to you all for your  support over the past year.

I hope you will give the same to your new captain for 2019.

For those who have contributed so generously in the `Captains draw`, thank you and let`s give Micky the same for this year.

Gentlemen, signing off 2018 with wishing you all a great golfing year, and best wishes to our new captain.

Keith Richard Dye.

Gentlemen, let`s begin with a word of thanks for those responsible for the organisation of the `Open`.

Many hours go into the running of this special weekend,
thanks go to all concerned.

To the winners of both Friday and Saturday well done to all
of you.

To our sponsors, Appleby, a huge thank you for your generous

input.  We have had some matches over the past weeks, with another great
weekend with our oppo`s from St. Pierre Park.

A result of 7.5  to  1.5 in our favour.

The inter-club weekend at La Moye in Jersey did not go too
well for our lads, but all put up a great effort.

The Le Cheminant cups Sponsored by Mr. Dave Torode, and the McLean cup sponsored by Mr. Geoff Ballay, were both superbly supported by the members.

Geoff was, once again for the tenth or more year, sponsoring this comp.

The St. Clements weekend was again fully supported, combined with the Past and present Captains also held at St.Clememts.

A good win by ex.Captain Geoff Meagher, followed by yours truly took the spoils on the day.

The match against St. Clements was yet again all about
friendships being rekindled and new ones being formed.

The result was a complete whitewash for the home side of 14 to nil.

Mickey!!!!!!   not much to beat next year

On Sunday the match against Les Mielles was also very
enjoyable in great weather. The result unfortunately was another complete whitewash for the home side to the tune of 6 nil.

Hospitality and lunch were however much appreciated by the L`Ancresse team.

Alas the season is fast approaching the last few comps, with the Sandy trophy along with the Don Eker Trophy  being hotly contested for.

With respect.....Captain.

Gentlemen, What a month of golf in such fantastic

Let`s start with the Club Championships, a great win for a
very popular member of the club, Mr. Jamie Blondel.

An emotional and well deserved victory to a player who has practised and played well over the past few months.

Many thanks to the sponsors, Kevin and Mark. Gentlemen, it is much appreciated.

K.P.M.G. Charity golf on the Friday 6th. To all those who
supported the day in some shape or form, well done, with the relevant charities being the winners at the end of the day.

Island Seniors Championships.

Congratulations to George Melhuish for reaching the semi`s in what was, another hard fought championships.

Noel shield.

What a result !!!!!!!!  The entire field blown away by
the duo of `yours truly` and `Ash`, in a jaw dropping 41 points ( don`t tell Mr. Bourgaize ) to the runners up of another Father and Son combination of Graham Falla and his lad on 35 points.

Centenary Trophy.

Again, a full compliment of entries, which shows how our
comps are appreciated by all members, especially with the sponsors we have.

In this case for the Centenary Trophy, we are fortunate to
have World Travel as our sponsors, with Jamie Blondel our current Club Champion,  representing them as Director.

Chris Vaudin coming in with  `64` and claiming a fine
victory in the medal section, with Tristan Brown coming in with `44` points to win the `plate` comp. Well done to both of you.

Capsec Trophy. ( L.G.C. `V` R.G.G.C. ( VETERANS ).

A great victory in atrocious conditions. Morning foursomes
4.5 to 0.5 L`ancresse  then Afternoon singles 4.5. to 5.5 RGGC resulting in a win for L`ancresse to the tune of 9 points to 6.

A great team effort !!

Ladies Greensome Social Pairs comp.

Once again gentlemen, a big thank you to all those who
entered into the spirit of this `social afternoon and evening with the `Royal Ladies`.

20 `a` side is a fine showing from both clubs, and I know
that Sue, Lady Captain, was more than pleased to see such a full squad for the day.

This year, the winners were, Mr. Vice  l.g.c. (Micky )
paired with Alice ( Lady vice ) who took the nearest the pin prize with  a shot of 15 feet from the pin on the 18th.

( Believe it or not by Micky himself.)

Runners up with 37 points were the pairing of Ricky Thomson and Elaine Goodhew, with the overall winners on 40 points being Alan le Page who paired with Lynne Eker.

Thank you gents for  your support, I am sure all the
ladies look forward to this very friendly fixture each year.

A mention is due for the continued and generous sponsorship of this fixture by Mr. Dave Sheppard.

Challenge Trophy. ( L.G.C. `V` R.J.G.C. ( SENIORS )

Played on Sunday 29th. in once again awful wet conditions.
Exceptional team effort from all team members  with special mentions to the players who came in last minute to cover those who could n`t make the match.

Result was a 2-2 draw with the last putt of the day on the
18th, a birdie putt, being all of `30` feet by one of the Royal Jersey lads to give them a `win` by 1 up, and draw the match and subsequently retain the trophy.

That`s July gone, so it must be the `BIGGEST` weekend of the golfing world in the Channel Islands coming up, Yeeesssss ...The L`ancresse Open Team golf on the Friday 3rd. August and then the `Finest` of all Competitions bar none, the `L`Ancresse Open`. on Sat. 4th Aug.

To all those who are going to enjoy that weekend, `Good

Your Captain.

28th June 2018

Gentlemen, the only way to start is with `` the `` weekend
of the month, Captains Day.

How do I begin to say thank you to all members, guests and
all who contributed towards a weekend of fantastic weather, fantastic scores, and even more fantastic generosity from all who supported my weekend.

Congratulations to the prize winners, including Colin
winning the `chunk` of silver for the chipping comp on the first tee. An extra bit of fun to assist my charities. Thanks to all who entered this in the spirit it was intended.

To `Mr. Vice, great help with all the running about, and
lunch was just what was requested, thanks Mick.

To the `Ladies `on the door on Saturday, many thanks for
your time and support, you are always there for the Captains, and it is greatly appreciated.

To all of the generous gifts from past Captains, Presidents,
and Friends, anyone would think that I liked a little liquid refreshment !!!! many thanks for your kindness.

To all of the `170 plus` members who played on the day, plus my guests, hope the weekend was up to your expectations.

To Iveta and her crew, another beautiful buffet on the
Sunday, enjoyed by everyone, thank you.

The `Auction` on Sunday was a bit of fun, and a huge thank
you to all those who put hand in the wife`s purse to bid for the donated items.

To Ash, your bid of £150:00, for the `Open` final day
tickets was very generous, but even more so when you said you would take `Old Dad` with you.

To all in  the office, great work once again, not
always mentioned, but appreciated.

All in all gentlemen, you have all helped in swelling the
`Charities ` pot by an amazing £1200, over this weekend.

If I have forgotten anyone, apologies.

 De La Rue and Picadilly.

On the Sunday of the same weekend was the De La Rue
and Piccadilly Shield between R.G.G.C. and L.G.C, with some very good golf played by the elite of our two clubs.

Weather was not nice, but that did not seem to affect the

R.G.G.C. winning/ retaining  the De La Rue Cup with
6-6 draw, and our second team winning the Piccadilly shield with a score of 8-4. Well done to all players.

Pembroke Cup

A most sociable afternoon and dinner was enjoyed by the team from L`ancresse with the ladies of the RGGC.

Officemaker Competition.

Another full entry for this ever popular team competition,
and once again sponsored the lads from `Officemaker`.

Many thanks to them yet again.

Past and Present Captains.

Great to see a good turnout from some of the well respected
past Captains of the club. Some good scores being produced, but thankfully not as good as `yours truly` who took the honours this year.

Good luck to Micky for next year.

Tom Rihoy trophy.

As usual, what a turnout in the entries and the presentation
for `Tommy`s Comp. He would be really chuffed.  Gary Rihoy, said some generous words towards the club on behalf of the family, who all appeared to enjoy the clubs hospitality and welcome on the day.

Channel Islands Finals.

Congratulations to all finalists who had to endure some
fairly gusty conditions on the course over the weekend.

Great result for Danny Blondel obviously, and to the club

for having the honour of having the Channel Islands Mens Champion as one of our members.

Henderson Final.

Ashley Dye just managed to `edge out` Wasif Annis  (
R.G.G.C )  in the final of the Henderson Final by a score of  7 / 6 . Another good win for the club. Well done Ash.

L`Ancresse `v` Alderney match.

On a somewhat warm day L`ancresse welcomed the Alderney team and we came out 4  1/2 to 2  1/2 winners. Lunch and a few swift half shandy`s were enjoyed on the balcony afterwards. Another very good weekend of
golf and friendships enjoyed by all concerned.

My thanks to the team on the day

July approaches ........ and that means ` The Open` is upon
us.  Let`s hope the weather is generous towards us for that weekend.

Gentlemen, thank you for another great month. Good golfing!

June 6th

June already, with the golfing season now fully engaged.

Matches  in May:

Sunday 6th .  L`ancresse v La Grande Mare.

Fantastic support once again from the L`Ancresse members, great weather and lunch.

Hospitality was excellent from Phil (Capt ) , and his boys.

However, home advantage appeared to be two much of a hurdle for our lads and we were beaten `11` to `1` .

Sunday 20th. May.  Hampshire  `7s` L`ancresse
 v La Grande Mare.

Great efforts from the L`Ancresse team, thanks to Jamie
Blondel, 1st team Captain, against a very spirited team from La Grande Mare.

With the match being off handicap, it proved difficult, and
after a close finish La Grande Mare edged out a win on the final green of the match.

Score  result...4 / 3 to L.G.Mare.

those in the prizes.

5th May 2018

Firstly, congratulations to the C.I. Team beating a
Hampshire squad last weekend. The weather wasn’t too good, but the result was excellent.

Well done to Danny Blondel, Jamie Blondel, Tim Carter
(L’Ancresse) and Daniel Griggs (Royal).

Final result – Channel Islands 6 ½ - Hampshire 5 ½

Walton Heath Trip

My thanks to all those who travelled, and making this very
popular trip another huge success.

Thanks also to Gary King for his help as usual with Clubs. To Kevin, Alan and Andy for your assistance in team selections.

Hospitality, along with rekindling friendships was once again very evident over the weekend.

The Match day was unfortunately marred by poor weather
conditions. Nevertheless, it was not all bad. After losing the morning matches 7-3, we actually managed to win the afternoon rubber 5½ - 4½ to get a 11½ - 8½ losing result. Apparently one of the best results for a few years away at Walton Heath.

To the ‘9’ newbies on the trip, I hope you were all suitably
pleased with your weekend and that you will think about returning again over the next few years. New blood for this fixture will always be appreciated.

Thank you for your support this year.

Heritage Challenge Trophy – 19 May 2018

A great entry for this very popular trophy.

Pembroke Cup v Royal Ladies

Keep an eye out for the list for this enjoyable social match
against the Royal Ladies followed by a light meal.

St Clements visit

Once again, the visit of our friends from St Clements Golf
Club in Jersey (28 players), was a resounding success.

It was an unfortunate misunderstanding regarding the Friday 13th, golf at L’Ancresse with GGU Team Golf via a shotgun start closing the course for the day.

However, La Grande Mare was the alternative venue and the St Clements lads managed to play 18 holes of golf there.

It wasn’t perfect conditions, somewhat like the ‘Horseracing Fraternity’ would put it, it was soft in places, very soft in others, and that was just the fairways

Match day was blessed with sunshine and a great day was had by everyone.

Blue skies and blue seas on Saturday was much more the case, rather than the blue language after Fridays “Swampathon”.

Friendships going back many years, and in some cases many, many, many years were once again rekindled in this very popular match.

A mixture of scores came in from both sides, culminating in a very close finish at 7-7.

A draw overall, giving L’Ancresse the edge and retaining the shield.

Lunch followed by the Grand National ended a superb

My thanks to all who assisted in the organisation of this
fixture, especially the two Peters, Blondel and Le Sauvage.

Hampshire ‘7’s – Sunday 15 April

After the Lord Mayors weather of Saturday, back to the rain on Sunday.

But, as usual, our lads braved the elements and played some great golf in atrocious conditions to beat a very spirited team from St Pierre Park. So, well done to the two Danny’s, Tim, Arthur, Mick, Stevie and 1st Team organiser

A 4½ - 2½ win means that L’Ancresse progress through to the next round where they play La Grande Mare.

To both teams, caddies, supporters, very well done in very
difficult conditions.

Finally, many thanks to one and all who helped to swell the
charity‘s boxes over the weekend.

Your Captain

March 2018

Now that the clocks have changed and the ‘Winter Leagues’ are done and dusted, it must be time to start another fine weather golfing season.

Unfortunately, due to the weather, the Henderson was reduced to a single round, yet still managed to produce some great scores. Congratulations go to those who progressed through to the match play stages.

The Pro-Shop Challenge on Saturday 7 April

A full entry sheet is a credit to the membership showing
appreciation to Chris Douglas on his final sponsorship competition for L’Ancresse Golf Club. I am hoping to see a ‘HUGE’ turnout for this presentation and to show support to someone who has looked after us L’Ancresse boys over the years.

Please do your best to show up, albeit even for a short

The St Clements visit on 14, 15 & 16 April

Thank you to all who have and are once again supporting this very popular match.

Pairings for the match will be posted ‘early’ on the board to give players ‘advanced notice’ of their tee-off times, so that they can arrive at the Club at the correct time.

Thank you to the ‘new’ members who have put their names
forward, it bodes well for the continuation of this particular match.

The ‘AWAY’ trip to St Clements in August/September is
currently being looked at, with information on final itinerary being posted shortly.

Hampshire ‘7’s’: L’Ancresse v St Pierre Park

Immediately after the ‘Highs & Lows’ of the St Clements match and the realisation of how much money was lost on the Grand National between us all, we have our ‘Team’ of L’Ancresse boys playing at L’Ancresse against St Pierre

Tee-offs commences at approx. 09:00.

If you are out and about, give the boys some support.

We wish them “Good Luck”.

Finally, a huge thank you to all who remained on, or joined
recently, to this very worthy Charity Draw. My two charities will be more than pleased.

Well done to the January and February winners.

Your Captain

February 2018

Apologies for the late (very late) first entry of 2018 on
the Captains Blog!

Drive In

Let me start by saying a massive thank you to all who braved the elements on Sunday 7 January.

For those who witnessed the inaugural speech, it certainly reached “new heights” for the incoming Captain!!!

The support by the hardy few, who huddled around the
green in my own personal “Hurricane Le Lacheur”, was much appreciated.

My chosen charities:- namely Clic Sargent and Diabetes – Guernsey, were delighted to see a starting collection of over £600 between them – thank you all who contributed.

To my family, volunteers and staff on that day, a huge
thank you.

What a start to my year –

Many congratulations to those who have again braved the winter weather and supported the very popular winter-league programme.

To all of our ‘new’ members, a warm welcome to the
L’Ancresse Golf Club.

I hope you enjoy your golf and our amenities in ‘your club’, as we pride ourselves in having an honest and friendly golf club to be enjoyed by all members.

Our bar facilities, and our friendly staff, are there for
you to enjoy, including a limited but excellent choice of foodstuffs, always pleasantly supplied by Iveta, our Bar Manager.

I am sure you will not be disappointed with what is available in our bar, including our meat draws, lottery draws and, of course, meeting new friends and

Captains Charity Draw

Many thanks to all of you who continue to support my
draw which will ensure increased donations to my charties.

Competitions (Walton Heath)

To those who have signed up for the Walton trip in April,
many thanks – it will once again, after all these years, be a tremendous trip.

To the ‘new’ members on the trip, hopefully this will be a
first of many visits to play, on what is after all, the opportunity to play on ‘2’ Ryder Cup venue courses.

St Clements (April 13-14)

Info will be posted on the notice board ASAP, to allow names to be put forward, for this very popular visit by our Jersey oppos.

Other Competitions

The Henderson Qualifying and the Pro Shop Challenge
competition sheets will be posted soon.

Please remember that your elected committee, along with Kevin (Club Office manager), plus myself and Micky (Mr Vice) are always on hand to deal with any concerns/issues that anyone may have regarding “your Club”.

I would like to end this 1st edition of ‘My Blog’ by
thanking all those who have sent me e-mails, phone messages and cards, over the past weeks, showing your support for my personal loss. It has been immensely

It goes without saying that I am hugely proud to be your Club Captain and representative for this great Golf Club.

I will do my utmost to uphold the traditions that the Club
is renowned for.

Finally, have a great golfing year on the L’Ancresse Links.
